The Chimaera
had the head of a lion, the body of a female goat, and the hindquarters of a snake.
Like Cerberus, the Chimaera was also a daughter of the hideous gods Typhon and
Echidna. She breathed fire, and was the most feared monster in Greek mythology.
Iobates commanded Belerophon to kill the Chimaera, since it made many raids on
his kindgon. To do this, Belerophon fitted the point of his arrow with lead which
melted when the Chimaera breathed fire upon it and caused its death.
